How to Feng Shui your Front Yard - Landscaping for better Energy Flow

When you hear the term Feng Shui, it is most commonly referring to the layout or design of a room or interior of a home. Yet did you know that Feng Shui originally was focused on the exterior and yards of homes? The original school of Feng Shui is known as the Landscape School afterall.

Your home's front yard in fact is so important to the overall Feng Shui of your home. That is because this is where energy first enters and is attracted into your home. If your front yard isn't properly Feng Shui'd you won't be able to manifest and work with the energy in the other areas of your home.

Thankfully, you can keep reading this blog post to get some easy and quick tips on how to properly attract some good vibes into your yard.

Create a Clear Pathway to your Front Door

Energy needs somewhere to go. It needs direction. Creating a clear pathway via a sidewalk helps direct the energy from the street towards your front door and into your home. Be sure you're adding plantings and other landscape features to make the energy flow smoother as well.

Add Plants to Enhance the Energy

In Feng Shui, plants are a popular catchall cure. They are good for enhancing energy as well as absorbing excess energy. It's ideal to add plantings around the home to help protect it from exterior qi, and to add these to specific locations like along your sidewalk and if your home is on a corner lot.

Place a Wind Chime near your Front Door

The words Feng Shui actually translate to wind and water in Chinese. Placing objects that connect to these elements is a great way to help the flow of energy. Wind chimes are a popular Feng Shui cure to call more positive qi to the front of your home. Any wind chime works, but I personally love these chimes from Laola.

Bring in a Water Feature

Water features are a classic way to attract more good energy to your home. Koi ponds are a common landscape element for Feng Shui, but any water feature works. Just make sure there is some moving water to encourage energy to flow into your space.

Make a Welcoming Entrance

Even in Feng Shui, it's all about curb appeal. Making your front entrance as welcoming as possible is also beneficial for the energy as well! Add a welcome mat, planters, signage and exterior lighting to give your front entrance a grand feel and help attract more good energy in!

Get Intentional with your Paint Colors

Color is important in Feng Shui and can be used to attract specific energies into your home. You can paint your whole house a certain color or just focus on the front door. To learn about what each color means and represents, you can read my other blog post, The Meaning Behind your Front Door Color.
